My(hopefully) entry to the Summer Contest by Daily Literature Deviations. Read more about the contest here: [link]

Word count: 2080 according to OpenOffice.

What's there to say about this piece? Seems to follow the typical dark theme that dominates my short stories. Oh well. Hope it works :)

Really nice piece! Very dark but enjoyably so and you set up a nice bit of tension with "the choice".

Good work!

My short ones seem to have a tendency to be dark, some perhaps overly so. Glad to hear it was balanced here.

Thank you for the comment :)

I loved your story. Would it be possible to continue? It's a very interesting idea. And i want to know if Sam died or lived... :)

So many people have asked for continuation that I'm seriously thinking about it.

Oh god yes, I love that open ending!

Richard's role in this situation...I couldn't help but think of what I know of Highlander, where 'there can be only one'. His motives are totally suspect.

I think the one thing you could shore up is some insight into Sam's past. Like he comes off as having been educated at one point, he's obviously homeless now because of booze and such, but what gave him such strong morals about killing?

Also, still amused by the grandma of sheep.

Congrats!

True, more could be told in detail. I was up against a word limit which was getting dangerously close so I did not want to put in much about his past. If I did that, I probably couldn't have cut it down short enough for the contest. But that limit is now gone so adding things would not be a problem any more. Seeing as people have been asking me to write more of this, maybe something will come of it.

Anyway, thank you for the comment and congratulations. I'll keep it in mind :)

Although don't give away much more about Richard, the enigma is appealing :eager:

Let me know if you do!

Ah, that's a fun movie, and I'm saying that as a person who generally doesn't like singing in his movies.

Glad you enjoyed the story :)

This was great! Starting rather innocently then quickly turning darker and more chilling.

I gotta ask, what decision did Sam make? Did he embrace the stone and feed it with other people, or let it feed on him instead?

Which ending do you prefer? It's your imagination that works after the ending, not mine ;)

It's a tough decision picking which ending I prefer. I suppose it'll just depend on my mood whenever I come back to ponder it.

How do you get it to appear like that? Like a PDF?
Reply
:iconbalaria:
Balaria Featured By Owner Sep 18, 2012  Hobbyist Writer
You of course need a program that can save your text as PDF. Open/LibreOffice can do it by default, MS Office might need an add-on depending on your version.

As for getting it on Deviantart, I just go to the Submit Art button in my gallery, click Upload File and select the PDF. You then need to add an preview picture in order to submit the work so make sure you have some sort of image ready to use.
